MI DNA Microarray (3.1.4/3.1.5)

DNA microarray can be used for the following purposes:

• detecting the presence of absence of a gene mutation

• detecting the presence of antigen from the N. meningitidis bacteria

• studying the extent to which certain genes are turned on or off in cancer cells

• amplifying the quantity of a particular gene of interest

In using DNA microarray to determine the extent to which a particular gene is turned on or off in cancer cells and tissues, the entire DNA genome of the cell is not isolated, but only this molecule which is then used to perform the microarray.
