Baalbek

Baalbek is an ancient city in Lebanon, a country in the Middle East. Baalbek was occupied by the Roman Empire and made a Roman city centuries ago. You can see that the very old Roman ruins were built on top of huge stones that were once the top part of a much older temple from an unknown culture. These enormous stones could be as much as 2.000 years older than the Roman ruins. These stones are a mystery because no one knows how it was possible to make these huge, perfect rectangles with the technology of that time. Each stone weighs about 1.500 tons and measures 68 x 14 x 14 feet. They are the largest worked stones on earth. Today, we still do not know why the stones were made or who had the skill to make them.
