Why is it so important to inhibit tyrosinase for laser treatment?

• PIHP can occur, particularly in skin fitzpatrickIV and higher as result of skin inflammation caused by laser treatment. This inflammation is caused by the heat necessary to destroy the hair follicle.

• This doesn't apply to post or pre laser treatment homecare.

Why do we recommend clients use the Daily Gentle Cleanser over their own cleansers?

• The reason we do not want laser customers to use their regular body wash or soap that foams or bubbles post laser, is because it most likely contains sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and/or sodium laurethsulfate (SLES) or other anionic types of surfactants that dry and irritate the skin. This is less than ideal when laser is concerned. Skin should only be treated when it is in a healthy state.

• Other cleansers will leave residue on the skin that can interfere with laser treatments

Why is sunscreen so important pre & post laser?

• Exposure to sunlight can cause the skin to become more sensitive to the light energy used in laser treatments. The risk of burning, scarring, and serious skin damage is very real if the skin is exposed to UV light pre laser treatment. Sun exposure creates a higher risk of PIHP. Use of sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays before laser is mandatory. Even incidental exposure can put the skin at risk.

• Pigment in the skin competes with the pigment in the hair during laser treatment This means the skin may absorb the energy from the laser instead of the hair, causing it to burn or discolour.

• Avoid sun exposure for two weeks altogether post laser. Skin needs time to heal before it is exposed to damaging UV light, and then it should be protected daily with a broad-spectrum SPF.
