Academic Vocabulary

• Words and phrases that are specific to a subject, task, or topic of study

• Words or phrases that are specifically used in the English language

• Words that are in the English dictionary

• Words that are used to communicate with co-workers

Argument

• A verbal dispute that slowly turns into a violent fight.

• An attempt to persuade the reader to agree to a certain topic using opinions.

• An attempt to persuade the reader to agree to a certain topic using evidence.

• A verbal disagreement between two or more people.

Audience

• Anyone listening to your speech

• Anyone that might read your essay

• Everyone attending a concert

• Someone that is watching you perform in a drama

Background/Prior knowlegde

• Information that is given at the start of a book

• Information needed to understand an entire subject

• Info needed to beforehand to understand a topic

• When you get information through google after reading a book

Bias

• When the writer describes something factual

• When the writer adds their own opinions to their writitng.

Body

• The middle section of the writing, provides evidence to claim.

• This is the physical representation of a human

Clarity

• Ideas written clearly and easy to understand

• Water isn't left murky and is safe to drink.

Claim

• A position on a topic that other might nor agree on

• The right to entitlement of an object you pain for.

Cohesion

• The stickiness between two or more items.

• Shows how evidence is all connected to one another

Conclusion

• The end of your argument in a topic, leaves the reader wondering.

• The end of a discussion
