Past tenses

Past Simple tense can be used to talk about:

• finished actions in the past with no definite time

• finished actions in the past with a definite time

• sequence of short actions in the past

• sequence of long actions in the past

While Kate 1 ..... (do) her homework, her brothers 2 .... (play) basketball.

She 1 ..... (see) a lot of places since she 2 .... (leave) her hometown.

Mark the sentences where Past Perfect could be used:

• While he _____ (wait) for the lesson to begin, his phone rang.

• When I heard about their plans, they _____ (choose) the destination for their trip.

• The tourists ____ (visit) many sights before they came back to their hotel.

• In her novels we can see that she _____ (always/love) this town, even when it wasn't so lively and vibrant.

Present Perfect tense CANNOT be used when talking about:

• recently finished actions

• unfinished actions

• progress at a certain time in the past

• result in the past
