Gaining self-awareness can start in small ways, like recognizing strengths. People often focus on what needs improvement. But they don’t always consider what they do well.

Recognizing those abilities helps build self-esteem. It also allows people to use their strengths to work on challenges.

TEXTO II- Self-Knowledge Vs. Self-Awareness

 

Self-knowledge and self-awareness are related terms but are not synonymous. Self-awareness is defined as the ability to become the object of your own attention and includes identifying, processing, storing, and recalling information that is specific to yourself and your experiences

 

(Morin & Racy, 2021). Put more simply, self-awareness can be thought of as your ability to reflect or introspect.

Self-awareness is the basis for self-knowledge. The two concepts differ in that self-knowledge implies an accuracy to your perceptions of yourself. For example, if I consider myself to be an extrovert but feel immediately overwhelmed by the presence of others, I would be expressing self-awareness, but not self-knowledge.

When you analyze your strengths, you can distinguish your natural abilities, what you like to do and what brings you satisfaction.

As well as understanding what your vulnerabilities are, trying to work on them so they don't become limiting.

Still, it is essential to make this decision carefully and conscientiously. This is because professional work demands a lot of time and dedication, being an important aspect of life.

To make choosing your area of ​​activity clearer, more objective and more pleasant, it is worth making a checklist, considering the following aspects: identify your interests: know what attracts your attention. For example: do you like doing calculations, but not science? Do you prefer to have contact with people or does that scare you?

Know your skills: soft skills and hard skills help you discover some areas and professions in which you find it easier to work.

List career options: Make a list of three to five areas that interest you.

Research the selected professions: deepen your research, looking for everything you can about the selected options, such as training, additional courses, where the vacancies are and what positions are available.
