4.2.1 Reasons for law reform

The following is an example of advances in technology which has prompted law reform.

There are many reasons why law reform is necessary. Which one of these is not a reason for law reform?

• Advances in technology.
• New government with alternative perspectives.
• Changes in beliefs, values and attitudes.
• Greater need for the protection of the community.

In 2017 the Commonwealth Parliament passed the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017 (Cth) to allow marriage equality throughout Australia. This reform can be described as having been in response to:
