When I was about 10, a family friend, also 10, and I were hanging out behind our ski house in VT. Another friend was a younger girl, about 8, who was sliding around on the frozen pond behind the house. We heard a “CRACK!” and some screaming. She had fallen through the ice. We couldn’t pull her out, so we jumped in and lifted her out. Then we scrambled to pull ourselves out and we carried her back to the house. If we weren’t there, she would have frozen in a matter of minutes. Thank the gods for hot chocolate!

My Holiday at home

On Saturday night, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes’ time.
