Cyrus McCormick made a machine that could cut, thresh, and bundle grain all by itself. This machine was called the mechanical reaper. It made it much easier for farmers to harvest large amounts of crops in a shorter time, helping to make farming more efficient. Cyrus McCormick's reaper was a big success and helped farmers all over the world. McCormick's reaper was so good that it was used in all 36 wheat-producing countries in the world by the end of the 1800s.
