Primary and Secondary Sources

Newspaper articles, maps, films, art, autobiographies, and government records. ie: Firsthand experiences by the persons of event (even if that source was created by them at a later time), connected to a historical event because either the person or time the source was created.

It doesn't matter if you're looking at an original or a copy of a primary source = still primary source.

Books, biographies, articles, dissertations, websites, textbooks, historical works, academic journal articles, and documentary films. ie: written at a later time of event/person.

Information derived from primary sources. It is often written long after the fact as a summary or analysis of what happened, based on primary source materials.
