How can I refer a child to Learning Support?

• Approach the SENCO to raise a concern and leave it in their capable hands.

• Make a referral to Learning Support using the referral form link (found in the flow chart or on the shared drive)

• Inform the parent of my concerns and then make a referral to Learning Support using the referral form link (found in the flow chart or on the shared drive)

• I don't know how to refer a child

When can you refer a child to Learning Support?

• The child must have been in my class for 5-6 weeks before making a referral to Learning Support

• The child must have been in my class for 5-6 days before making a referral to Learning Support

• The child must have been in my class for 2-4 weeks before making a referral to Learning Support

• The adult can make a referral to Learning Support as soon as the child joins the class

What will Learning Support do within 1 WEEK a referral has been made?

• Meet with the class teacher and recommend Quality First Teaching strategies

• Will diagnose the child's need and remove them from your class.

• They will ask to see all of the child's work before doing anything

• Meet with the class teacher and instruct them what to do.

What will Learning Support do within 2 WEEKS of a referral being made?

• Observe the child if requested

• Send the child to the counsellor

• Send a Learning Support assistant to work with the child

• Complete a diagnosis of the child's condition

What will Learning Support do within 4 WEEKS of a referral being made?

• Class teacher and SENCO will jointly evaluate whether the child requires extra support before informing parents.

• Will write an IEP and leave it in the capable hands of the class teacher

• Will give the class teacher a list of strategies that will fix the problem

• Will request a full report of the child's progress
