MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
30 sec • 1 pt
Radioactive decay is where a parent isotope (carbon14, uranium238, potassium40 or Rubidium87) is UNSTABLE and changes to a STABLE daughter element. This decay is predictable and constant. the decay is called half-life and that is the time it takes the parent isotope to change into the daughter. For example, carbon14 takes 5,700 years for half of a sample to change to nitrogen14. So if you started with 100 grams of carbon14 then after 5700 years you would have 50 grams of carbon14 and 50 grams of nitrogen14. Add another 5,700 years or 11,400 years in total, then you have 25 grams of carbon 14 and 75 grams of nitrogen14. What does U238 decay into? ESRT's!!!!!!
