KC - Pastoral Quiz

Screnario: Student arrives 15 minutes late to class, this is the first time this has happened.

• Mark student as L - Encourage student to address their attendance

• Make an example of the student as they stand in front of the class

• Mark studnents attendance as T

• Mark student as Present

Alize is not following instructions in class today which is out of character. He then decides to take a nap instead.

• Teacher enters pastoral into Kamar.
  Leaves student to sleep in class.

• Teacher moves into close primixity of student. Reminds Alize of the expected behaviour and class focus.

• Teacher draws the attention of the class to make an example out of situation

• Teacher withdraws student from class. Escorts them to the manukura office.

Hennesey has pulled her cellphone out in class to scroll through social media without the permission of her teacher. She has not responded well to the promixity control and non-verbal cues of the teacher.

• Teacher escorts students to the Manukura office to have students placed on pink card.

• Teacher write students up on Kamar. Calls home to ask parents to address Hennesey's behaviour.

• Teacher redirect and re-teaches the behavioural expectations of the school. Teacher chats with the student to put things right.

• Teacher withdraws students in their department and refuses to allow students to return until a restorative conversation takes place.

Shardonnay is standing outside of your classroom doorway calling out to one of her friends.
She uses innapropriate language that alerts the class and teachers attention before entering the class.

• Teacher communicates with the principal to address the students behaviour.

• Teacher withdraws students into department withdrawal room until a restorative meeting has been held with a guidance person.

• Teacher uses non-verbal cues before loading the incident into Kamar. Communication with Manukura is made and left with manukura to address.

• Teachers moves into close proximity of the student and discusses the behavioural expectations of the school. The teacher and student work out how to put things right.

Despite attempts to modify behaviour, Merlow continues to display inappropriate behaviour in class
Teacher has tried to de-escalate and restore the situation with student and whānau but Merlow continues to be defiant.

• Teacher withdraws student directly to Manukura office and details to manukura their expectations of what should happen with the student. Teacher refuses to allow student back into class until a restorative is held.

• Teacher withdraws student into department withdraw room. Logs pastoral into Kamar and communicates with home. Awaits HoLA to hold a restorative with Merlow and teacher.

• Teacher withdraws student directly to principals office

• Teacher asks student to leave the classroom and continues lesson

Over the past couple of days Jack has shown up to school wearing a yellow hoodie without a note from home. Jack walks into whanau group class in the morning wearing the yellow hoodie again.

• Student is asked to leave whanau class and directs them to Mr Wihongi's class because he is a member of the leadership team.

• Teacher writes up a uniform note allowing Jack to wear the yellow hoodie for the remainder of the week.

• Teacher allows student to wear incorrect uniform

• Student is directed toward the Manukura office to talk about their uniform. Manukura look for fitting uniform, communicate with home, log incident into Kamar and offer student a uniform pass.

Jack and Daniel begin to fight in class over issues that began on Social Media

• Teacher runs to the manukura office to get support while the students are fighting.
  Waits for manukura to give teacher direction of next steps and carries on with their class.

• Teacher tries to de-escalate the fight. Makes contact with Manukura and/or SLT to support where possible and supports in escorting students to manukura or SLT office. Teacher
  Awaits restorative before returning to. Enters incident on Kamar.

• Teacher stands by until fight ends and asks Jack and Daniel to get out of his classroom

• Teacher takes bet on who will win the fight

Koniac is in class and asks teacher if they are allowed to go outside to drink from a water fountain.

• Teacher says yes and tells them to be quick about it.

• Teacher writes a note for the student before letting them go. Encourages them not to take too long

• Teacher raises their voice telling the student that they should have gone to get a drink during breaktime and that Koniac is just like his brother Steinny.

• Teacher gets upset with student and enters a pastoral incident into kamar about the student not being focused on learning.

Sativa hasn't been bringing PE gear in to school despite being reminded from her teacher of the expectations of PE and health concerns. Teacher tries a range of different approaches to engage the student but Sativa keeps telling teacher that she forgot her gear again.

• Teacher tells students to just sit out the activity and jump on their phone.

• Teacher withdraws student from their class and tells students not to return until they have the appropriate gear.

• Teacher contacts principal to table their frustrations about the student and demans action

• Teacher logs incident into Kamar and refers student on to HoLA and Manukura.
