What is a file system?

• A file system is a method for storing and organizing files on a storage device.
• A file system is a programming language used for data manipulation.
• A file system is a hardware component of a computer.

Sequential Files have two arrangements. What it is?

• Random and Unordered
• Order and Unordered

• Hierarchical and Flat
• Circular and Linear

How do you access sequential files?

• Reading each record until it reaches the one required

• Records are in order, so if just one record is required then the method is slow, but if all then it is very fast

• The system looks up the key and goes to appropriate place on the storage disk to access it

The 4 types of files is?

• Transaction Files, Master files, Backup files and log files

• Software, hardware, procedure and Human

• Spreadsheet, Presentation, Database, Webpage
• Document, Archive, Audio, Video

Transaction Files are used to hold

• Security and recoveries

• Permanent data

• historical data analysis
• temporary data

What is the function of file updating?

• Removing an item/detail from the record or data system

• Adding a new item/detail into the record or data system

• Updating a file, usually overwriting old data with new data. Various processes can take place during updating

• Amending certain detail(s) to match an actual information
