The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu
Once upon a time, in West Java, there lived a beautiful princess named Dayang Sumbi. She had a son named Sangkuriang, who was a brave and adventurous boy. One day, while hunting in the forest, Sangkuriang accidentally killed his own father, Tumang, a magical dog. Not realizing the dog was his father, Sangkuriang brought the meat back to his mother. Dayang Sumbi was heartbroken and angry when she discovered what had happened, and she sent Sangkuriang away from their home.
Years passed, and Sangkuriang grew into a strong young man. Unbeknownst to him, he fell in love with his own mother, Dayang Sumbi, when he returned to the village. Dayang Sumbi did not recognize Sangkuriang at first and agreed to marry him. However, when she noticed a scar on his head, she realized he was her son. To prevent the marriage, Dayang Sumbi devised an impossible task for Sangkuriang: to build a large boat in one night. Sangkuriang accepted the challenge and used his magical powers to complete the task.
As dawn approached, Dayang Sumbi feared that Sangkuriang would succeed, so she tricked him by creating the illusion that the sun had risen. Thinking he had failed, Sangkuriang became furious and kicked the boat, which turned into a mountain called Tangkuban Perahu. Sangkuriang disappeared, and the boat became a famous mountain that remains in West Java to this day.
