Long ago, in the land of Parahyangan, lived a handsome young man named Sangkuriang. He was the son of a beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi and a magical dog named Tumang. Sangkuriang didn't know that Tumang was actually a prince who had been transformed into a dog.
One day, while hunting in the forest, Sangkuriang accidentally killed Tumang. Heartbroken and angry, Dayang Sumbi hit Sangkuriang on the head with a ladle. Humiliated and ashamed, Sangkuriang ran away from home and wandered for many years.
When he finally returned, Sangkuriang had grown into a strong and determined young man. He fell deeply in love with a beautiful woman who lived in a nearby village. Unbeknownst to him, the woman was none other than his own mother, Dayang Sumbi.
Sangkuriang asked Dayang Sumbi to marry him, but she refused. She knew that he was her son, but she didn't want to reveal the truth to him. Determined to win her heart, Sangkuriang made a deal with Dayang Sumbi: if she agreed to marry him, he would build a large boat overnight.
Dayang Sumbi agreed, knowing that it was impossible to build such a large boat in just one night. However, Sangkuriang was a skilled worker and was almost finished with the boat when Dayang Sumbi realized what she had done. In a desperate attempt to stop him, she ordered her servants to light up the eastern sky, making it appear as if the sun was about to rise.
Sangkuriang was furious and kicked the unfinished boat, causing it to overturn. The boat turned into a giant mountain, which is now known as Tangkuban Perahu (the overturned boat).
