How does a hot air balloon work?

• Heating the air inside the balloon makes the air inside the balloon lighter than the cooler air on the outside. This causes the balloon to float upwards.

• The rotor blades act like wings and create lift.

• The propellers spin and cause it to hover.

• The helium causes the balloon to be lighter than the air so the hot air balloon floats. 

• The shape of the balloon causes lower air pressure above the balloon.  Since the air around the balloon has higher pressure than above the balloon, the basket lifts.
