How to Create a Strong Password

Whether it's using social media or online gaming, writing a blog or just a message, young people are busy online. When online, it is important to stay safe. A key to online safety is a strong password.

1 The less obvious your password is, the better. Avoid using personal information, such as birthdays or names of your pets. Words like password or 123456 are also a no-no.

2 The more characters and symbols you use, the harder your password is to break. Make your password at least eight characters long.

3 Use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters. Use numbers and symbols. For example, the word mysterious becomes My5t3rl0u5.

4 Create a password that is easy to remember, but at the same time is hard to guess.

One idea is to choose a sentence, then take the first letters of the sentence to make a password. For example: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. This becomes HDs0@wHDh@gf.

5 Change all your passwords often. While creating strong passwords does take time, it is a highly important step to protect your personal information.
