If you have ever watched the credits after a movie, you know there are a lot of different jobs on a movie set. While most people understand what actors, directors, and camera operators do in a movie, other jobs are less clear. Below are some explanations of important movie jobs.

Production Assistant

Production assistants are sometimes called “gophers” because they run a lot of errands. They do everything from driving to the hardware store for a tool to bringing coffee to the director.

Gaffer

Gaffers are responsible for the lights on a movie set. While this might sound simple, film lights are extremely hot. The lights require a lot of long cords and power outlets. Gaffers have to make sure the lights and cords are out of everyone’s way so no one gets burned.

Grip

The word “grip” offers a clue that explains what this job involves. Grips use their hands a lot. They carry heavy equipment, move hot lights, and unload trucks. One easy way to spot a grip on a movie set is to look for the people who are wearing gloves.
