Explain a brief meaning of skimming in reading according to your understanding!

The following passage is about the writer, educator, and editor Paz Marquez-Benitez.

Rather than read it slowly word for word, skim it and decide what aspect of his life it covers.

Paz Marquez-Benitez was born on 3 March 1894 in Lucena, Tayabas (now Quezon), Philippines. Born into the prominent Marquez family of Quezon province her parents were well educated. Both of Paz's parents would enter into careers of education and become teachers in what would lead to Paz's admiration and respect for the educating profession.

Aged six, Paz would begin her educational career and after three years at the age of nine would be enrolled into high school. Paz attended the Tayabas Highschool now, Quezon National High School where she would be praised by her principal for her academic achievements in English.

During Paz's time at the Normal School in Manila, she like many other Filipinos during the early 1900's, would be introduced to American culture. This introduction to American culture would begin in 1910 at the age of sixteen when Paz would take to basketball and eventually become the team captain. American culture would continue to envelop around Paz in 1912 at the age of eighteen when she would be introduced to, and participate in, a beauty contest where she would be chosen to be placed within the cover of the Renacimiento Filipino.

One weakness of mild steel is that it corrodes as its surface progressively deteriorates due to a chemical reaction. This reaction takes place between the iron in the steel and the oxygen in the air, forming iron oxide. When iron corrodes, we say that it rusts. In some metals, such as aluminum, the presence of corrosion is not a problem, as the layer of oxide around the metal remains hard, preventing further oxidation. However, when mild steel rusts, the rust on the surface continuously flakes off, and a new rusty layer forms, progressively "eating into" the metal.
