An explorer from Portugal who started an expedition to get to India by crossing the Atlantic then Pacific Oceans.  One ship from the initial five that started the voyage eventually made it back to Spain making that expedition the first to circumnavigate the earth.  Magellan didn’t make it back, he was killed in a battle on the journey.
