The two components of the past tense with AVOIR are:

• conjugation of avoir + past participle
• conjugation of aller + past participle

To form the past participle of a regular -ER verb:

To form the past participle of a regular -IR verb:

• drop -ir and add i
• drop -ir and add é
• drop -ir and add it
• drop -ir and add u

To form the past participle of a regular -RE verb:

• drop -re and add u

• drop -re and add é
• drop -re and add i
