Energy is a complex concept, not easily defined or seen directly. It exists in various forms, such as chemical potential and kinetic energy, which are crucial in chemistry. Potential energy is stored energy, like in a stretched rubber band, while kinetic energy is the energy of motion. Molecules are always in motion, and their kinetic energy relates to temperature. On hot days, air molecules move faster, transferring energy to your skin, felt as heat. Conversely, on cold days, your skin transfers energy to the air, felt as cold. Energy flows around us, evident in cooking, where chemical potential energy in charcoal becomes heat and light, cooking food. This energy is then used by our bodies or stored. Energy is conserved, constantly changing forms but never created or destroyed.
