During repair, a vehicle is found to require additional unexpected work. The correct course of action is to

• leave the extra work until the next service

• obtain the customer's authority to proceed with the extra work

• proceed with the extra work and inform the customer on arrival

• carry on with the job regardless of time and cost.

During a vehicle repair the job card must, in the FIRST instance be authorised by the

• service manager

• manufacturer

• receptionist

• customer.

One factor which increases the time allowed for a repair department job is

• rusted and corroded threads

• technicians rest periods

• excessive overhead costs

• technicians awaiting equipment.

When it is discovered that the completion time for a job will exceed that agreed, in the FIRST instance the

• time for all other jobs should be rescheduled

• vehicle should be parked in a secure area

• insurance company should be informed

• customer should be informed.

Service / repair records need to be kept up to date because

• the payment of bonuses to production operatives may be affected

• warranty work can only be carried out after service / repair records are consulted

• the person who compiles the records will have difficulty keeping information in sequence

• the sequential compilation of records is difficult.

As an engine warms up, the tappet clearance will

• decrease slightly

• increase slightly

• remain unaltered

• become zero.

Double spring valves may be used to

• improve valve opening speed

• reduce bounce

• increase overlap

• vary valve timing

A turbocharger impeller is driven by

• the driving belt

• incoming air

• oil pressure

• the turbine

It is necessary to have a gap in a piston ring in order to

• reduce oil drainage

• reduce blow-by.
