DATA LINK LAYER (SUBLAYERS):

Communicates between the networking software and device hardware.

DATA LINK LAYER (SUBLAYERS):

Encapsulates data and manages access to the physical media, ensuring only one device transmits at a time.

DATA LINK LAYER (WAN Topologies):

Consists of a permanent link between two endpoints.

○ directly connect two nodes.

○ nodes may not share the media with other hosts.

DATA LINK LAYER (WAN Topologies):

Similar to a star topology where a central site interconnects branch sites through point-to-point links.

DATA LINK LAYER (WAN Topologies):

Provides high availability but requires every end system to be connected to every other end system.

All end systems are chained together and terminated on each end.

Each end system is connected to its respective neighbors to form a ring.
