What is the Commutative Property?

The Commutative Property states that you can change the order of numbers when adding or multiplying, and still get the same result. For example, 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 and 4 × 2 = 2 × 4.

The Associative Property states that the way numbers are grouped when adding or multiplying does not change the result. For example, (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4) and (2 × 3) × 4 = 2 × (3 × 4).

The Distributive Property states that a number multiplied by a sum is the same as that number multiplied by each addend and then added together. For example, a(b + c) = ab + ac.
