The Commutative Property states that the order in which you add or multiply numbers does not change the sum or product. For example, 3 + 5 = 5 + 3 and 4 x 2 = 2 x 4.

The Associative Property states that the way in which numbers are grouped when adding or multiplying does not change the sum or product. For example, (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4) and (2 x 3) x 4 = 2 x (3 x 4).
