How do you determine that the writer is writing to persuade?

• Because he/she told me

• If they want you to change their perspective.

• If they are trying to get you to enjoy the book.

• She/He is trying to give you information

What is the point in finding out the author's purpose?

• It will help the reader the enjoy the book

• So the reader will have an awareness that he/she is being manipulated

• To allow the reader to know what the Author's purpose is

• To help the reader know which details to focus on and how to address them

• It can help the reader see why the author wrote it

• It can help show the reader what the book is about and why he wrote it

Why is it important for readers to understand an author’s purpose for their writing?

• This helps the reader understand the text better.

• The author might get their feelings hurt if their writing is misunderstood.

• A reader will be considered uneducated if they cannot figure out the author's purpose, and readers do not want to embarrass themselves.
