A character in a story who is hostile or mean to someone or something; sometimes referred to as the bad guy or the villain. (In Because of Winn Dixie Opal thought that the Dewberry brothers were an example of this).

In addition, our perception of Otis changes because in the beginning we think he might be bad because he has been to jail but we later find out why he went to jail and that his is really a nice person).
