Why does a compass align itself with Earth's North Pole?

• Because compass needles are slightly magnetized and align themselves with earth's magnetic field

• Because one of the poles of the magnet is called the North Pole, so it would only make sense that it would be on the North side

• They don't actually do this, they just align themselves with the North side of a map

• Because North is slightly downhill (as long as you are in the Northern Hemisphere) so gravity causes the compass to point North
