Characterization is the development of characters in a story. The author uses the mnemonic: STEAL. What does STEAL stand for?

• Speech, Thoughts, Effect on others, Actions, and Looks

What does the literary term 'point of view' mean?

• Using your finger to get someone's attention.

• The narrator's position in relationship to the story being told. ex. This story is told from the child's point of view. First, second, and third person point of view.

• A phrase used to make a comparison.

What is the "tone" of a story?

• The feeling the passage evokes from the reader

• The author, narrator, or speaker's attitude toward a subject

• The time and place of the story

• The summary of events in the story
