Bridge (in an argument essay)

• CONNECTS the first and second paragraph

Claim

• The person or people who will be affected by the issue

•  A topic from society that people have different views about

• The main point being argued about a text, topic or idea

• The first paragraph in the essay, meant to introduce the topic

Thesis Statement

• States the claim and reasons that the essay will argue, the last sentence of the first paragraph.

• Facts, statistics, survey results, interviews, quotes, anecdotes and any research that supports the claim.

• The first paragraph in the essay, meant to introduce the topic

• Information that helps the reader understand the issue at hand
