Inferences Practice

Due to their incredible force and unpredictability, floods can cause tremendous damage. They can ruin houses, roads and buildings. Floods can take down trees and cause mudslides. It often leaves mud, sand and debris behind. It can take months to clean up after a flood.
Based on what you have read, you can INFER that:

• Cleaning up after a flood can be expensive and take time.

• Floods only occur along the coast.

• Floods are not that dangerous.

• After flood waters dry up then the problem is over.

Albert stormed into his apartment and threw down his lunchbox. He had just lost his job. Albert had worked for the same company for over ten years. But today he was informed that he was no longer needed. Albert didn't know what to do.  
Based on what you have read, you can INFER  that:

• Albert's job lasted over ten years.

• Losing his job made Albert upset.

• Albert lived in a house with his parents.

The boy was outside. The buses are gone and the hallways are empty. What can you infer?

Jennifer’s aunts and some of her mom’s friends were all in the living room. On the side of the room was a table with a cake, gifts, and balloons. Suddenly, Jennifer’s mom arrived home from work and was getting out of her car. Jennifer’s dad turned the lights off. When Jennifer’s mom entered the house and turned on the lights, everyone yelled, “Surprise!”

Cindy enjoyed playing in the water. She especially enjoyed building a sandcastle. She used her shovel and her pail to collect sand. Her brother Tony buried himself in the sand. Cindy finished covering Tony’s body with sand after she was done building her sandcastle. The reader can infer that Cindy and Tony –

Laura forgot to set her alarm at night. In the morning when she woke up, she saw her clock and realized that she had to get up quickly. She dressed as fast as she could and didn’t even had time to sit and eat breakfast. Laura rushed to work as fast as she could. The reader can infer that –

Tom and his family were getting ready to leave on a great vacation. His parents had packed snow boots, skies, and snow boards. Tom prepared his jacket. sweaters, scarves, gloves and hat. The family was excited to arrive at their destination for a great vacation.

The reader can infer that –

• It is Christmas break for Tom

• Tom was missing his jacket

• Tom's family is late for their flight

• Tom's will rent a snowboard when they get to their destination

Mike and his family enjoyed a great show. Mike saw many acrobats that did awesome tricks. He also saw many trained animals like elephants and tigers along with their trainers doing tricks. His favorite was the motorcycle stunt show.

The reader can infer that –

• Mike was bored by the show

• Mike and his family went to an action movie

• Mike and his family went to the circus

• Mike and his family went to a zoo
