The Golden Star-Fruit Tree
Long ago in Vietnam, a wealthy old man had two sons: a greedy older brother and a kind younger one. After their father’s death, the older brother took most of the inheritance, leaving the younger one a small piece of land with a star-fruit tree. The younger brother earned his living by selling the star-fruits until a raven began eating them. When he begged the raven to stop, it agreed to pay him in gold, making the younger brother very rich.
On their father’s Memorial Day, the older brother visited the younger brother and realized that his brother had become very rich because of the big raven. Out of greed, he traded all his wealth for the tree. He asked the raven for gold, using an oversized bag. The load became too heavy for the raven, and the older brother fell into the sea with his gold, drowning due to his greed.
Why did the younger brother only receive a small piece of land and a star-fruit tree?
