• Since he mother is missing, she cannot be a mother. This is Lizzy's way to emotionally protect herself in case her mother is really gone.

• Willa always liked her first name & wanted her children to call her by it.

• Lizzy never knew her mother, so she refers to her as Willa because she never was her mother.

• The people working at Bletchley Park are trying to understand German messages that have been encrypted.

• The story seems to be focusing on two main ideas. Jakob & the breaking of the German code. Lizzy & finding her mother. Each character focuses on their main ideas.
