Roddam is a city highly susceptible to flooding due to its low elevation and proximity to the North Sea. To combat this, the Dutch built a massive storm surge barrier between 1991 and 1997. This structure, known as the M slant Cur, features two enormous arms, each the size of the Eiffel Tower, making it the largest moving object ever created. When high water levels are detected, the gates can be closed in a 2.5-hour process to prevent flooding.
