Cohesion

• the property of water that causes it to stick to itself

• A measure of how temperature affects a substance; range goes from 0-100, with 50 being neutral.

Dissolve

• to make a solution of, as by mixing with a liquid; to melt

• to solidify a substance

• to separate into parts

• to combine different elements into one

Pure substance

• an element or compound made up of one type of particle

• a mixture of different substances

• a solution with varying concentrations

• a compound that can be broken down into simpler substances

Mixture

• a material made up of two or more different chemical substances; can be separated by physical method

• a single substance that cannot be separated by physical methods

• a combination of elements that form a new substance

• a homogeneous mixture of two or more liquids

Acid (acidic)

• a substance that neutralizes a base to form water; has a pH less than 7

• a substance that increases the pH of a solution

• a substance that has a pH of exactly 7

• a substance that reacts with acids to form salts

Adhesion

• the property of water that causes it to stick to other objects

• the ability of water to resist external forces

• the process of water evaporating into the atmosphere

• the temperature at which water freezes

Molecule

• A single atom that cannot be broken down

• Two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds

• A type of chemical reaction

• A mixture of different substances

Compound

• a pure substance made by chemically combining two or more elements; represented by a chemical formula

• a mixture of two or more substances that retain their individual properties

• a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances

• a solid formed from the cooling of a liquid solution
