Write a small story with a hook, topic sentence, one body paragraph starting with a fact, and a conclusion off of this story.
The Life-Changing Work of Service Dogs
Service dogs are not ordinary pets-they are specially trained animals that help people with disabilities live safer, happier, and more independent lives. These remarkable dogs can be trained to perform more than 80 different commands to assist their owners with a wide variety of tasks. For example, Sterling, a service dog, was trained to help Thomas Griffin, who has Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Type 1 Diabetes. Sterling helps Thomas keep his balance and responds quickly if Thomas’s insulin pump alarm sounds, which could mean Thomas’s blood sugar is too high or too low. Sterling’s training has even helped save Thomas’s life by alerting him to dangerous changes in his health.
Service dogs also help children with autism. Adrien, a young boy with autism, sometimes runs off without understanding danger. His service dog, Beau, was specially trained to keep Adrien safe. Beau senses when Adrien is about to run and gently holds him back, preventing him from getting into dangerous situations. Beau’s actions have saved Adrien from harm several times. In addition to keeping Adrien safe, Beau gives him love and friendship, making Adrien feel calmer and more secure.
Service dogs support adults, too. Jeanie, who has Muscular Dystrophy and uses a wheelchair, relies on her service dog, McGrew, to help her in daily life. McGrew helps Jeanie get in and out of her wheelchair and assists her when she uses crutches to climb stairs. During the pandemic, McGrew also brought joy to tired hospital workers who visited Jeanie’s workplace, showing that service dogs can help more than just their owners-they can spread happiness to others as well.
These stories are just a few examples of how service dogs make a big difference. Service dogs are smart, dedicated, and hardworking. They help people with many kinds of disabilities, from physical challenges to medical conditions and even emotional needs. Thanks to their training and loyalty, service dogs give their owners more independence and confidence every day
