REORDER QUESTION

10 mins • 1 pt

How does Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) work?

The 3D printer read the g-code. The printing nozzle heats and melts the filament. The filament is forced through the nozzle to build the 3D object layer by layer.

A 3D model file in STL of OBJ format is imported into a slicer program.

The program will then “slice” the digital 3D object into separate layers and generate a g-code file which indicates the movement and setting of the printer.

REORDER QUESTION

How does Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA) work?

A build platform lowers into the tank. The UV laser traces one layer of the design each time. The liquid resin hardens into solid and creates a single layer of the object.

A 3D model file is imported into a slicer program.

The build platform rises and the above process is repeated.

The tank is filled with liquid photopolymer resin.
