Interval

• Cadence at 180 steps (36 inches in length) per minute.

Alignment

Distance

• The space between elements in the direction of depth. In Cadet formations, the distance between ranks is 40 inches.

File

• A single column of cadets one behind the other.

• A formation of cadets in a square shape.

Formation

• Arrangement of elements of a unit in line, in column, or in any other prescribed manner.

• A process of creating a new unit from existing elements.

• A method of evaluating the effectiveness of a unit's structure.

• A strategy for improving communication within a unit.
