is committed for platelet production.

Maturing cells undergo Endomitosis:

nuclear division without cytoplasmic division

Series of Megakaryopoiesis

• Derived from Myeloid stem cell lineage

• Growth Factor Responsible for the

  stimulation of the myeloid stem cell to be

  committed in platelet production:

  - CFU-Meg

  - Thrombopoietin

What growth factors & hormones are needed for the bone marrows to produce stem cells?

• Colony Forming Unit -Megakaryopoeisis

  (CFU-Meg)

• Thrombopoietin

There are also interleukins that are needed for successful maturation of these

platelet producing cell

The stem cell will now transform and mature to four stages of development, and eventually produce

platelets

•  Megakaryoblast, Promegakaryocyte, Megakaryocyte, and Metamegakaryocyte

• Megakaryoblast (MKI), Promegakaryocyte (MKII) and Megakaryocyte (MKIII)

Rodak’s textbook only gives 3 stages:

•  Megakaryoblast, Promegakaryocyte, Megakaryocyte, and Metamegakaryocyte

• Megakaryoblast (MKI), Promegakaryocyte (MKII) and Megakaryocyte (MKIII)
