Left atrium

• Collects oxygenated blood and passes it to the left ventricle.

• Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

• Receives blood from the body through the vena cava.

• Regulates blood pressure in the arteries.

Right ventricle

• Pumps blood into the aorta

• Pumps blood into the pulmonary artery

• Pumps blood into the left atrium

• Pumps blood into the systemic circulation

Valve (Right side)

• Allows blood to flow into the right ventricle, preventing backflow.

• Prevents blood from entering the left atrium.

• Allows blood to flow into the left ventricle, preventing backflow.

• Prevents blood from flowing into the lungs.

Left ventricle

• Pumps deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary artery

• Pumps oxygenated blood into the aorta

• Receives blood from the right atrium

• Pumps blood to the lungs for oxygenation

Vena cava

• Receives deoxygenated blood from the body.

• Transports oxygenated blood to the body.

• Filters blood to remove toxins.

• Regulates blood pressure in the arteries.

Pulmonary vein

• Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.

• Carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

• Transports oxygenated blood to the heart.

• Filters blood before it enters the lungs.

Valve (Left side)

• Allows oxygenated blood to flow into the left ventricle (prevents backflow of blood).

• Allows deoxygenated blood to flow into the left ventricle.

• Prevents oxygenated blood from entering the left atrium.

• Allows blood to flow from the left ventricle to the aorta.

Aorta

• Pumps oxygenated blood to the body.

• Filters waste from the blood.

• Transports carbon dioxide to the lungs.

• Regulates blood pressure.

Pulmonary artery

• Transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs

• Transports oxygenated blood to the heart

• Transports carbon dioxide to the kidneys

• Transports nutrients to the brain
