OSHA Jobsite 2 Truths and a Lie

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

• Hard hats protect your head from falling objects.

• Flip-flops are allowed on site if it’s a hot day.

• Safety glasses help prevent eye injuries from flying debris.

Ladder Safety

• You should always face the ladder when climbing up or down.

• It's okay to stand on the top step of a ladder for better reach.

• Ladders must be placed on a stable, level surface.

Tool Safety

• Tools should be inspected before each use.

• It’s fine to carry tools by their cords.

• Damaged tools should be tagged and removed from service.

Fall Protection

• Fall protection is required if you're working 6 feet or more above the ground.

• Guardrails, safety nets, and harnesses are all types of fall protection.

• You only need fall protection if you're working on a roof.

Electrical Safety

• Live wires should be clearly marked and avoided.

• You can work near exposed wires if you’re wearing gloves.

• Lockout/Tagout procedures help prevent accidental shocks.

Housekeeping

• Keeping the worksite clean helps prevent accidents.

• Leaving materials in walkways is okay as long as people can step over them.

• Tools should be stored properly when not in use.

Hearing Protection

• Earplugs or earmuffs help protect against loud noises.

• You don’t need hearing protection unless it’s painfully loud.

• Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause permanent hearing loss.

Chemical Safety

• You should always read labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using chemicals.

• If you spill a chemical, you should walk away and let someone else clean it.

• Wearing gloves and goggles helps protect you when using chemicals.

Scaffolding Safety

• Scaffolds should be inspected daily before use.

• You can jump off a scaffold if it's only a few feet high.

• Workers must use fall protection when working on scaffolds over 10 feet.

General Jobsite Conduct

• Horseplay is dangerous and not allowed on the jobsite.

• Only trained personnel should operate power tools.

• It’s okay to distract someone using a saw if it’s just a joke.
