Indigenous

• original settlers of an area (ie. the people who migrated from Asia to the Americas in the Ice Age)

• people who colonized a region from Europe

• migrants who moved to a new country for work

• descendants of ancient civilizations in Africa

legacy

• long-lasting impact of events, actions, people, etc (something left behind)

• a temporary state of affairs

• a historical document or artifact

• a type of financial inheritance

Columbian Exchange

• Global transfer of people, plants, animals, diseases, & technology between the “New” World and the “Old” World

• A trade agreement between European countries

• The movement of people from Europe to Asia

• The exchange of cultural practices between indigenous tribes

Subsistence Farming

• A method of agriculture where crops are grown primarily for sale in markets

• A type of farming that focuses on producing enough food for the family with little surplus

• An agricultural practice that uses advanced technology to maximize yield

• A farming technique that relies heavily on chemical fertilizers and pesticides

Imports

• what a country brings in (buys) from another country

• what a country sells to another country

• goods that are produced domestically

Indentured Servant

• A person who works for free indefinitely

• A person who owes another & works for them for a specific amount of time to pay off their debt

• A person who is a permanent employee with benefits

• A person who is forced to work against their will

Cash Crop

• A type of crop grown primarily for personal consumption

• An agricultural crop grown in large quantities & sold for profit

• A crop that is only grown in specific regions

• A crop that is used solely for livestock feed

Representative Government

• A system where citizens have no say in government decisions

Prejudice

• A favorable opinion about a person or group

• An unfavorable opinion, feeling or attitude about a person or group rooted in suspicion, fear, or intolerance

• A neutral stance towards a person or group
