General Safety Test

Lifting heavy objects incorrectly can cause injury. The correct way to lift is:

• Bend the knees and lift with the back straight or vertical

• Bend over and lift

• Take a deep breath and lift very quickly

• Lift with knees straight and back horizontal

If the acetylene cylinder uses a wrench to open the main valve:

• Have it repaired

• Discard the cylinder

• Remove the wrench and put it away

• Keep the wrench in place for emergency shut off purposes

To identify the acetylene line:

• The hose is green or black and tightens counter-clockwise

• The hose is red and tightens counter-clockwise

• The hose is green or black and tightens clockwise

• The hose is red and tightens clockwise

If you empty a cylinder and change it out, be sure to:

• Throw it away

• Let the next person take care of it

• Mark it "m t" and place a triangle over it

• Paint it gold, brown and black, the school colors

Tossing and throwing things in the shop is always forbidden because it may:

• Disrupt the class

• Injure someone

• Break a window

• Attract others into a game of catch

To cool metal rapidly that has just been welded, dip in water using:

• A rag

• Pliers or tongs

• Welding gloves

• Bare hands

Long pieces of metal stock should be safely carried in the following manner:

• Balanced on the shoulder

• In a vertical position

• On top of your head

• Low at arms length with a person at each end

To adjust cylinder connections, use:

• Pliers

• Vise grips

• A proper fitting wrench that won't slip or strip the fitting

• All the above

If the tank pressure gauge on the acetylene drops below 25 psi, you should:

• Turn it down some more

• Turn it up a little

• Shut off the main valve and change out the tank for a full one

• Keep working and don't worry about it

Hoses should be kept in an open area:

• Where they will feel more comfortable

• Where nothing can bother them

• Because they look the best there

• Where they can't be tripped over and away from sparks and slag
