He was a prophet who spoke about God's sorrow for Israel's unfaithfulness to Him by having false gods. His experience oh having an unfaithful wife and remaining forgiving to her manifested God's love and forgiveness to Israel.

While Jeremiah preached in Judah, he preached in Babylon which had conquered much of the ancient near East. He spoke of God's holiness and Israelites' condition as punishment. But after all these, he brought hope that God had not forgotten them and restoration would come.

He was a captive in Babylon whose faithfulness in God was rewarded. From being a simple and ordinary man, he was elevated into a position of respect and authority, first with the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar and then with his conqueror Darius. The account showed God's protection and providence for His faithful followers while in captivity.
