This stage is all about booting the Hero out of their comfort zone. They are usually confronted with a problem or challenge they can’t ignore.

The Hero is now ready to act upon their call to adventure and truly begin their quest. The Hero may go willingly or may be pushed, but either way they finally depart from the world in which they are familiar.

This stage of the journey has the Hero facing their greatest fear or most deadly foe. Only through some form of ‘death’ can the Hero be reborn, a metaphorical resurrection that somehow grants them greater power or insight necessary to reach the journey’s end.

The journey has yet to start. Before our Hero discovers a strange new world, we must first understand the status quo: their ordinary, mundane reality.

Now finally out of their comfort zone the Hero is confronted with an ever more difficult series of challenges that test them. The Hero also must find out who can be trusted and who can’t.

The Hero has received their summons. Now they are all set to be whisked off to defeat evil, right? Not so fast…

The Hero gets to return home with the prize they won. However, they go back a different person than when they started out. They’ve grown and matured as a result of the journey they’ve taken.

The Hero finally decides to go on the adventure- but they’re too inexperienced at this point. Here comes someone who can help the Hero so that they don’t make a total fool of themselves.
