Why does the boat float?

• Sulfur Hydraflouride is a very dense gas and the boat surface area is able to float.

• Sulfur Hydraflouride has pushed down on the air causing the air to be more dense than usual. This allows the boat to float.

• Sulfur Hydraflouride has been added to the insides of the boat and makes it lighter than air.

What just happened

• The man in the black shirt is a magician!

• The Sulfur Hydarflouride is being scooped from the bottom and then poured into the boat causing all the gas around the boat (in and out to be the same density) the aluminum foil is now heavy enough to sink

• The man scoops the compressed air out, which makes room within the tank for the boat to drop down.

Would this work with a plastic boat? (like a beach toy)

• Yes. The gas is dense enough to float every type of solid.

• No. The gas is dense, but can only float really light objects like spread out the aluminum foil.

• No. The gas is having a chemical reaction to the aluminum foil that it would not have with plastic.

Unrelated to the boats...

Why did the people who sucked in the gas have their voices go deeper?

• Because the voice box tissue froze up

• Because the sound waves travel much faster through dense gas.

• Because the voice sound waves were slowed down a lot when traveling through the more dense gas.

Remember the anvil video with mercury, how are the deep voices similar to the way the anvil sounded when the man hit it with a hammer while in the bath of mercury?

• Both were passing sound waves much slower through the dense liquids

• They are not similar at all.

• The mercury and sulfur hydra fluorine are both less dense then air. sound will travel slower through less dense materials.
