The Great Wall of China, a 13,000-mile structure, began as separate walls built by feudal states during the Chunqiu period. Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified these walls to protect against northern invasions. Under the Han Dynasty, the wall expanded further, often built by forced labor. Despite its formidable size, the wall was breached by Mongol invaders. The Ming Dynasty refortified it, but it fell into disrepair under the Qing Dynasty. Today, the wall is a cultural symbol, attracting millions of tourists and undergoing preservation efforts. Contrary to popular belief, it is not visible from space.
