Claudio Monteverdi, born in Cremona in 1567, was a pioneering composer who transformed music in the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. He began his musical studies early and gained fame for his madrigals. In Mantua, he worked under Duke Vincenzo Gonzaga, where he developed his dramatic composition style. Despite personal and financial challenges, Monteverdi's work in melodrama, particularly 'Orfeo', marked a significant evolution in music. Later, in Venice, he became a respected maestro at San Marco, continuing to innovate until his death in 1643.
